February is Black History Month

I finished the W2's for our company - on time! Everyone got theirs on the 30th of Jan. As for our personal taxes, the donations/contributions for 2006 are trickling in our mail every day. We're waiting for a few more, and still have to close out the shop's 06' bookkeeping before we file our income taxes with U. Sam. Lovely!

On another note ~ my title heading reads "Black History Month". And it makes me ponder on the meaning of this month and how it'll effect Evan in the future. Okay - here's an eye opener for those who do not know the ethnicity of our child. Evan is 25% Black, 25% White, 25% Hawaiian and 25% Japanese. Can I say MIXED to THE MAX!! Everyone knows my nationality, but yet sometimes gets confused when they see Cy. Who by the way - makes up for the 25% black/25% white in Evan. Most mistake him to be Indian or Pakistani, and then most can't even guess what he is. As you can see, Evan looks very much like his daddy. His skin color is not white, but has a little tan look to him. He has very curly, Hawaiian-textured hair, but has the legs of the Japanese side of my family. Go-figure! Isn't God awesome on how he created Evan to be? Oh, one more thing - I went to the DMV to get a new driver's license because mine fell apart. So, one of the questions asked was my nationality. Choices: Black, White, Asian, American Indian. THAT'S IT! I asked if they had Pacific Islander. Nope! Well, what if I'm neither of the choices, I asked. I still had to choose. With frowed eyebrows....I chose Asian - BUT, I'm not fully Asian. Personal opinion -- they need to have Pacific Islander on there. I'm very sensitive when it comes to talking about ethnic backgrounds.

THREE more months and Evan will be 2 years old. The latest thing he does is grab your hand (or shirt, sweater - anything in his reach) and take you to what he wants you to see. It's the cutest thing! Have a wonderful weekend!

Aloha!
Wendy
